My current work focuses on the nature of conceptual change and explanation in the biological sciences, specifically within the dynamic of the discipline of evolutionary developmental biology, using a combination of historical and philosophical methodologies.

In addition to this research, I am also interested in the role of history in philosophical research, reductionism and developmental biology, the history of morphology and paleontology in the 20th century, the role of philosophical principles in competing explanations of the Cambrian radiation, historical and philosophical issues surrounding the molecularization of systematics, and issues on the nature of intuitions and thought experiments in philosophical methodology.
